Rathdrum (5km east of Greenan), is an attractive and busy small town offering the obvious advantages of access to a good range of supplies and services (including ATM), the town is located on the main east coast rail line providing a good train service between Dublin and Rosslare ferry port in the south east.
Local attractions include nearby Avondale House (built circa 1850), where iconic political leader, Charles Stewart Parnell, was born. The adjoining Forest Park extending to over 200 hectares, contains some fine woodland and riverside walks. Wildlife (squirrel, badger, stoat and otter) abounds in the area and can frequently be observed. In addition over ninety different bird species have been recorded here.
