Conservation Volunteers Wanted!

Mountain Meitheal are a group of volunteers who undertake conservation and restoration projects on mountain and forest tracks. Our objectives are simple, we are attempting to counteract some of the pressures that are evident on Ireland's mountains by working with the various landowners including, the National Park & Wildlife Service, Coillte and private landowners. We also promote the concept of sustainable recreation through the LEAVE NO TRACE message and are members of the Leave No Trace Ireland group.

We meet at least every two weeks on alternate Saturdays and Sundays from late February to late November and our programme details are updated regularly on this site and through emails. You can contact us for further information on joining us through our own website.

We have volunteers from many different backgrounds, skills and interests. You may have questions for us before you come out and join us so we have attempted to answer them on our FAQs and you can also see photos and reports from some our work on our newsletters You can also visit our little trail shop to purchase t shirts and pins and other goods as available.

Mountain Meitheal : Adirondak Shelter, Glenmalure

The latest Mountain Meitheal addition to the Wicklow Way. This Adirondak style shelter can sleep up to four and has provided overnight shelter for many Wicklow Way users since it "opened" for business in July.

Mountain Meitheal : Get out, Get dirty, Give back

59 Meitheal Volunteers gave over 700 hours of their valuable time to repairing and improving the Glensoulan/Deerpark section of the Wicklow Way. They constructed over 800 metres of new trail with steps, water bars and landscaping. It was a fitting project to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Wicklow Way.
