Travelling to and from the Wicklow Way

The task of getting to The Wicklow Way is made easy by the fact that the route's northern access point is in the outskirts of Dublin, Ireland's capital city. International transport is provided by several well known airline and ferry companies.

From Dublin to Marlay Park, the northern access point, Dublin Bus No.16 from Santry through the city centre (O'Connell Street) provides a regular service. A bus stop is conveniently located almost opposite the Park entrance gate.

If planning to begin at Clonegal and walk to Dublin, then the Bus Eireann Expressway service from Dublin's city-centre bus station (Busaras) at Store Street to Waterford will leave you at the village of Kildavin, just 3 km from Clonegal. Alternatively continue to the larger town of Bunclody (Clonegal 5 km) to make final preparations and purchases.

A third possibility is to do just some of The Wicklow Way, beginning or finishing at either Roundwood or Laragh/Glendalough, both of which are served by The Glendalough Bus Company service.

On a more local scale, there are a number of travel options when walking from the Wicklow Way to the towns and villages adjacent to the route. There is a list of taxi numbers available in the individual towns section of this website. Also check the accommodation listings, as some proprietors will collect you from the trail. Another valuable service that some houses offer is to transfer your luggage on to your next place of rest. Please refer to individual owners for the rates charged for these services.
