Location

Mountain View Lodge is set in the remote valley of Glenmacnass, along Wicklow's famous Military Road. The bed and breakfast is 2½km out from Laragh village and 1½km off the Wicklow Way. These distances should not let any walkers be put off as the unmatched tranquililty of the setting is the reward.

Accommodation

Mountain View Lodge is a family-run business in a purpose-built Bed and Breakfast. The house has been recently refurbished when the current owners, Shay and Kerry, took over in 2011. There are five bedrooms in total, all of which have an ensuite with a shower. Each bedroom has tea/coffee making facilities and a television showing the Irish Saorview stations.

The large lounge at the end of the house is solely for the use of the guests. There are two large couches and a bean bag to relax on whilst watching TV as well as a table and chairs for reading or playing board games on. There is a small library of books to browse through as well as a selection of DVDs for viewing. There is further seating outside on a balcony overlooking the garden and surrounding mountains and valley.

Self-Catering Cottages

For small groups looking to have a little extra privacy, there are two self-catering cottages also on the site, separate to the main house. Each cottage has two double bedrooms and are usually rented by the week but outside of the peak season (Jul-Aug), it may be possible to stay here for a minimum of two nights.

Grounds

Two babbling brooks provide the natural boundaries to the eight acres of land which surround Mountain View Lodge. There is a private 1km walking trail around the perimeter of the grounds.

Since purchasing the property, Shay and Kerry have felled several trees and retained the native tree species. They have made the conscious decision to let the land grow fallow and allow the natural wildflower meadow to re-establish itself.

Guests are encouraged to take a little time to explore the grounds and are challenged to try and spot some of the elusive wildlife that frequent the meadow and wood, from hares, foxes, badgers and squirrels to the occasional deer passing through. During the Summer months, the cuckoo call can also sometimes be heard.

Food

Tired walkers can avail of a courtesy lift to and from the Wicklow Heather Restaurant can be organised for an evening meal. In the morning, a full cooked breakfast comes included in the price of staying at Mountain View Lodge. Packed lunches can also be prepared for those setting out for a day in the hills.
